Technology

There are lot of technological aids that can help the genealogist.

  • Consider purchasing a digital camera that can make high resolution macros (close-ups). This useful for taking pictures of old pictures or documents.
  • Using a flash can be detrimental to old prints.  A tripod can be helpful to steady the caemera when going ‘flashless’
  • Consider using your digital camera to photograph your ancestor’s tombstone.  Take many photos from different angles in different light taking care to capture the writing clearly.
  • If funds allow purchase a laptop and portable scanner for the on-the-road-genealogy trips.
